Bill Maguire Appointed as Head Coach of OHA Penticton’s U18 Female Prep Black Team
OHA Penticton GM, Scott May is excited to announce the appointment of Bill Maguire as the new Head Coach of the U18 Female Prep Black team for the upcoming season. With an impressive coaching and playing career, Bill is an exciting addition to our program.
Bill Maguire and his wife, Penny, relocated from Barrie, Ontario, to BC last fall. Bill recently retired as a High School Teacher, specializing in Geography and Physical Education. In his pursuit of this role within our female program, he has chosen to relocate to Penticton for the winter season from Predator Ridge in Vernon.
Bill has experienced a diverse and successful coaching career. He was most recently Head Coach for Barrie Colts U15/U16 AAA from 2018 to 2023 and has coaching experience with a Female High School Hockey Club.

Bill’s playing career includes playing for the North Bay Centennials and the Niagara Falls Flyers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he was drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the National Hockey League (NHL). He then went on to compete at the collegiate level for York University in USport highlighted by two national championship victories and being selected as a USports All-Canadian.
He has held various coaching roles throughout his career, demonstrating his commitment to player development and coaching education. Notable positions include Head Coach of Men’s Hockey of the York University Lions, Couchiching Terriers (Jr A), Barrie Colts (Jr B), and Ohio University Bobcats (ACHA). He also served as an Assistant Coach for the York University Yeomen and specialized as a Skill Development Coach for Defensemen with the Barrie Colts AAA.
Bill’s extensive coaching experience extends to guest coaching at Team Ontario U17’s main training camp, coaching mentorship with the Barrie AAA Zone, and coach evaluation with the Ontario Hockey Association. He has also contributed as an Ontario Hockey League Pre-Scout for various teams.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Education (Ontario Certified Teacher) from the University of Toronto, a Master of Science in Physical Education with a focus on Athletic Administration from Ohio University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Physical and Health Education and Geography from York University.
In addition to his coaching and playing careers, Bill is presently serving as a Scout for the Neutral Zone NHL division, focusing on the WHL and BCHL. He was the former Owner/Director of Concept Hockey, a Summer Hockey School in Barrie, and Head Hockey School Instructor at various camps, including Can-Am Hockey Camp, Stars Specialized Hockey Camp, and Mitch Korn’s Specialized Hockey Training.
Bill Maguire is certified as a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) High Performance 1 coach, demonstrating his dedication to coaching excellence.
