camps/ Defence Camps

You are the protector of the house. You play one of the hardest positions on the ice. Your job is to protect the defensive zone as well as be the catalyst in the break out and start the offensive rush. You are the quarterback on the powerplay. Do you have all the required skills? Get game ready with one our Defence specific camps.
Our Defence camps on ice programs are designed by former NHL defenceman, who understand the complexity of the position. Camps are great for forwards and defence alike.

What the Camp will focus on:

  • Instruction in all 3 zones – Defensive, Neutral and Offensive
  • Angling skills, shot blocking techniques and breakouts
  • Gap control and transitional play
  • Skating focus on agility and lateral movement
  • Shooting and shot selection
  • Blue line utilization
  • Decision making and Hockey IQ

Camp Details:

  • 2.5 hours of ice time per day
  • Daily off ice training in Skills Centre
  • Daily hockey specific dryland
  • End of session game
  • Souvenir jersey
  • Written evaluation

FORMER NHL DEFENCEMAN, ROBERT DIRK (PENTICTON, BC)

402 NHL games with Montreal, Chicago, St. Louis and Anaheim. Dirk coached at various levels including the ECHL, WCHL and UHL. Robert currently is Head Coach for the OHA U17 Prep Team.

FORMER NHL DEFENCEMAN, JOSH GORGES (KELOWNA, BC)

Born and Raised in Kelowna, BC Josh grew up playing hockey in Kelowna where he ended up making the Kelowna Rockets as an undrafted bantam player. Josh had tremendous success as a junior player starting with winning the 2003 Ed Chynoweth Cup (WHL Championship). The following season he played for Team Canada at the world Junior Championships winning a silver medal. During the 2003/2004 season Josh was Captain of the Rockets when they won the 2004 Memorial Cup. As an undrafted junior player Josh attended camp with the San Jose Sharks where he earned an NHL Contract. During his time in the NHL he played 783 Regular Season games as well as 68 playoff games. Josh’s leadership has always been recognized through his career as he was an assistant captain for 5 NHL seasons. Josh continues to call Kelowna home and has spent the past couple of seasons working with the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) and the West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL).
