Hockey Camps Edmonton: The City of the Oilers and Okanagan Hockey
A lot of Canadian communities like to consider themselves as a “hockey town.” Edmonton is one that can rightly lay claim to that designation.
As any hockey fan knows, the Edmonton Oilers have a proud championship history. The club is associated with some of the best players of all time, including current Oiler Connor McDavid and the Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky.
From the Oilers of the NHL to the Edmonton Oil Kings (WCHL) and the University of Alberta’s Golden Bears and Pandas, hockey season is always an exciting time in Alberta’s capital city.
It’s one of many reasons why Okanagan Hockey decided to set up shop in the City of Champions!
Okanagan Hockey in the Oil Capital of Canada
Young prospects looking to follow in the footsteps of generational talent like numbers 97 or 99 can enrol in Okanagan Hockey Academy in Edmonton.
Edmonton is one of one of three locations in Canada that offers training by Okanagan Hockey Academy throughout the school year. OHA has partnered with Vimy Ridge Academy to provide students with a well-rounded education to complement their on-ice education.
With a population of just over a million people, you have all the amenities of a big metropolitan area in a city with a small town, Prairie feel.
A Place to Improve Your Skills Throughout the Year
The city has also been selected to host WHL Development Combines, where young players show off their skills and receive feedback to guide them in their career development.
Edmonton is also home to numerous excellent rink surfaces, including those at the Servus Credit Union Place in St. Albert, Alberta (just outside Edmonton).
What makes this location so significant (other than being the birthplace of former Oiler Mark Messier) is that it hosts Okanagan Hockey’s instructional camps from late July through mid-August each year.
Edmonton is a city where you can immerse yourself in the sport without ever having to leave; that is, until you’re officially drafted to your next team!
Edmonton Camps are Among the Best Anywhere
Being the best player on the team demands constant improvement. Edmonton is set up to nurture young hockey talent for excellence.
OHA summer camps are divided into intensive 5-day sessions for players under 15, under 13, and those under 9.
Summer training complements the instruction players receive throughout the regular school year. Camps provide an opportunity to isolate and improve upon various aspects of the game. Players get the coaching they need to enhance their speed, agility, puck handling, and positioning on the ice.
Defensive and offensive players will find equal opportunities for advanced skills development.
Whether you’re a goalie eyeing an opportunity to play in the WHL (during the Western Prospects Showcase) or you’re a parent looking to introduce your 7-year-old to the game, OHA camps in Edmonton are the way to go.
Edmonton Is a Nice Place to Live
There are plenty of reasons why Edmonton is constantly mentioned as one of Canada’s best cities to live. Not only does it boast some of the highest average household incomes in the country, but Albertans don’t have to pay sales tax (PST) on their purchases.
More than just the city with the mall (one of the world’s largest shopping malls), Edmonton offers plenty of outdoor activities too, with nearby lakes, ski areas, and the Rocky Mountains of Jasper, AB, just a few hours away.
If hockey is in your blood, and you desire to be your best, Okanagan Hockey Academy in Edmonton, Alberta, has everything you need to go the distance!
