Hockey Veteran and Champion, Richard Matvichuk, joins Okanagan Hockey Colorado as Senior Consultant

Denver, Colorado, June 12, 2023 – Okanagan Hockey Colorado is thrilled to announce the addition of Richard Matvichuk, a highly accomplished and respected figure in the hockey world, to their organization as Senior Consultant. Matvichuk brings a wealth of experience and a winning mindset to his new role, further enhancing the team’s commitment to excellence.

Matvichuk’s hockey journey spans over three decades, starting with a successful playing career. The former NHL defenseman represented Canada on two occasions and spent fourteen seasons in the NHL with the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas Stars, and New Jersey Devils. Matvichuk was an alternate captain during the Dallas Stars’ historic Stanley Cup Championship in the 1998-99 season. Additionally, he served as an alternate captain for Team Canada during the 2002 World Championships. Matvichuk’s extensive experience on and off the ice has shaped him into a valued leader and mentor.

With a transition to coaching, Matvichuk’s passion for the game has continued. His previous coaching positions, including Head Coach for the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League, have provided him with valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of the modern hockey player. Matvichuk believes in fostering open and honest communication, creating an environment where players, staff, and management can thrive collectively.

In his new role as Senior Consultant for Okanagan Hockey Colorado, Matvichuk will utilize his extensive knowledge to contribute to various aspects of the organization with a focus on hockey operations and player development.
